revised

I revised the left side to make the land lay flat and added a few flowers to that side. Both good suggestions from the critique group.

A favorite place to paint.

This pastel was started as a plein air piece last week and I have taken it as far as I dare for now.  Luckily it is the weekly critique group this week, so I can seek guidance before I succumb to the urge to work on it some more.

The shapes of shadows

This piece started with an acrylic wash under painting.  .After I had my large shapes established, I started modifying the areas with pastels,  gently darkening and brightening the colors but keeping my overall large shapes and values intact.  It really helped to have an idea of what I wanted it to look like BEFORE I began.

Farms

I painted these two pieces as part of the Annual Silverton Arts Outdoor Painting event.  The Goat shed is at Geercrest Farm near Silverton. The Blooming Field is near Silverton.  Both pieces will be in the show in October.

Hillsboro Plein Air

The Hillsboro Plein Air started today.  It was a very nice day for painting and a lot of painters opted for the Jackson Bottom Wetlands.  Luckily, the place is huge, so one could paint with others or not. No shortage of beautiful scenery.

After Lavender, what do you paint?

The gold is in the fields!   The first one was started on location at Jackson School Lavender last week.  I was having trouble making lavender work in the foreground.  So, when I didn't need it for the festival,  I reworked it without lavender at all.
